Full wrap or partial wrap? Choosing vehicle branding that pays

How to decide between a full and partial wrap, what affects the price, and how long branding lasts.

A branded vehicle is a moving billboard that's seen by thousands of people every day. The big decision is whether to go for a full wrap or a partial one.

Full wrap

The whole vehicle is covered in printed vinyl, including the sides, back, bonnet and often the roof. It's maximum impact and it makes your vehicle unmistakable. It also protects the original paint. It's best for delivery vans, promotional vehicles and brands that want to own the road.

Partial wrap

Part of the vehicle is branded, usually the sides and back, with the vehicle's colour as the background. It's the smart choice for fleets, company cars and first-time branding. You get most of the visibility for noticeably less.

What affects the price

  • Vehicle size: a saloon car versus a van versus a truck
  • Coverage: full, partial or just decals and door logos
  • Material: standard vinyl, reflective vinyl or one-way vision for windows
  • Design complexity and the number of vehicles, since fleet jobs cost less per vehicle

How long does it last?

Quality vinyl, installed properly and cared for (hand washing, no pressure washers up close), stays sharp for years. Keep the vehicle out of harsh sun where you can and it will last even longer.

Tip: Put your phone number and what you do in big, simple text on the back. That's where people read it in traffic.
